Few vehicles evoke the timeless charm of the Mercedes-Benz W113 SL Pagoda, an icon of 1960s automotive design. Known for its sleek lines, impeccable craftsmanship, and innovative removable concave roof that earned its “Pagoda” nickname, this classic has captivated enthusiasts for decades. Now, Everrati Automotive has reimagined this legendary vehicle for the modern age and unveiled the Everrati W113 SL Pagoda. By integrating state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) technology, Everrati has ensured the Pagoda’s legacy endures as a sustainable, high-performance automobile fit for today’s roads and future generations.
Founded on a passion for classic cars and a commitment to sustainability, Everrati has become a global leader in electrifying iconic vehicles. The company takes a meticulous, engineering-first approach, akin to the standards of today’s leading automotive OEMs, ensuring each conversion is both a celebration of heritage and a technological triumph. The W113 SL Pagoda exemplifies Everrati’s philosophy, offering a driving experience that retains the magic of the original while delivering the reliability, safety, and excitement of modern EV technology.
“Electrification is not just about sustainability,” says Justin Lunny, Everrati’s Founder & CEO. “It’s about enhancing the essence of these vehicles, making them more enjoyable and practical for everyday use. The Pagoda is a perfect example of how we preserve history while embracing the future.”
Each Everrati W113 SL Pagoda begins its transformation with a donor car – typically a late-run 1968 280SL, one of the most sought-after models. The car undergoes a painstaking disassembly, stripped down to its bare chassis. Every component, from the bodywork to the drivetrain, is restored or replaced to ensure concours-level quality.
The centerpiece of the conversion is the integration of a bespoke EV powertrain, developed to OEM standards. The result is a vehicle that delivers up to 300 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, capable of reaching speeds of 124 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 8.0 seconds. The car features a regenerative braking system, extending the range to up to 160 miles, depending on the selected battery pack (54.4 kWh or 68 kWh).
Despite these modern upgrades, the electric Pagoda retains a weight similar to its original counterpart, ensuring its handling characteristics remain true to the spirit of the classic. Every aspect of the chassis and weight distribution is carefully calibrated to provide a smooth yet thrilling drive.
Everrati’s attention to detail is evident in every element of the Pagoda’s design. The exterior retains the elegance of the original, with the Le Mans Blue colorway paying homage to its rich heritage. Cast-aluminum door shells and bespoke alloy components, including individually numbered bonnets and boot lids, add a touch of exclusivity.
Inside, the cabin is a masterclass in blending period-correct aesthetics with modern luxury. The seats, door panels, and dashboard are adorned in cashmere leather from Scotland’s Bridge of Weir, known for producing low-carbon, sustainable materials. German square-weave carpets, a chrome-trimmed digital display, and a Bluetooth-enabled classic radio complete the interior. The bakelite steering wheel and retro-inspired dials, including a kW output gauge, create an authentic yet contemporary driving environment.
Everrati offers the W113 SL Pagoda in two distinct trims:
- Standard: Designed for agile performance and spirited driving, with enhanced luggage space thanks to the removal of the boot-mounted battery box.
- Touring: Prioritizing extended range for relaxed, long-distance journeys, this trim retains the sporty essence of the SL while providing added endurance.
Both trims feature reversible engineering, allowing owners to revert the vehicle to its original internal combustion engine configuration if desired. This unique capability highlights Everrati’s respect for the car’s heritage and its dedication to offering flexibility to collectors.
Safety is a priority in every Everrati project. The W113 SL Pagoda is no exception, having passed the stringent R100.01 electrical safety certification. This makes it one of the safest electric classic cars on the road today. The meticulously engineered EV powertrain not only enhances performance but also ensures reliability and safety for everyday use.
Behind the wheel, the Everrati Pagoda offers an exhilarating experience. The whisper-quiet EV motor delivers instant torque, creating a seamless acceleration that feels both powerful and refined. The regenerative braking system adds a layer of control, allowing drivers to enjoy longer journeys without compromising on performance.
For many, the true magic lies in how faithfully the electric Pagoda captures the spirit of the original. By preserving the design, handling, and essence of the classic, Everrati has created a vehicle that appeals to both purists and modernists alike.
Everrati’s bespoke conversions start at $300,000, excluding the donor vehicle. Each commission is tailored to the owner’s preferences, from paint finishes to interior materials, ensuring a truly personalized masterpiece. Whether it’s the lightweight agility of the Standard trim or the endurance-focused Touring trim, every Pagoda is a testament to Everrati’s craftsmanship and innovation.
